Grover S. "Skeeter" Herrman

Age 86, lifelong resident of Deepwater, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Skeeter is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise; daughters Diane Ford, Pennsville, Linda Murphy (Dennis), Newark, DE; grandsons, Jason Ford, (Ashley) Columbia, SC, and Chris Murphy, Newark, DE; and sister, Pearl Keene, West End, NC. Skeeter was predeceased by his parents, Walter H., Sr. and Mabel E. (nee Thompson) Herrman and five brothers, Charles Chapman, Walter Jr., James Ralph, Robert Eugene and Raymond.

Skeeter served in the U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean War.

Skeeter retired from the DuPont Company, where he worked for 38 yrs. as a Construction Supervisor. After retiring, he worked for the Township of Pennsville as Zoning Officer for 13 years.

Skeeter was a lifetime member of the Deepwater Fire Department with over 65 years of volunteer service. He held the offices of President, Vice President, Assistant Chief, and served as Chief of the department from 1971-1979. Skeeter was a Life member of the NJ State Firemen's Association, Past President of the Pennsville Township Firemen's Relief Association, Past President of the Salem County Fire Chief's Association, and Past President of the Delaware Valley Chief's Association.

Family and friends may call Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., at the Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 S. Broadway, Pennsville. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pennsville Church of the Nazarene, 172 Churchtown Road, Pennsville, NJ or Deepwater Fire Company, PO Box 309, Deepwater, NJ.
