Helen Kathleen Gladnick was born 1925 in Illinois. Her parents were Byron E. and Mary Shafer Frame. She was a National Honor Society member while in high school in Illinois. After high school, she studied Pre-Journalism at the University of Illinois
. Kathleen worked as a feature writer and daily columnist on The Chronicle Herald. During that period she took flying lessons in a Piper J-3 Cub and wrote of the experience in a column for the Herald.
Kathleen came to Wilmington, DE and worked in the DuPont Nylon Division before marrying N. Lawrence Gladnick, a local dentist. She became involved in local drama activities, acting and directing for The Genesians (the patron saint of actors), an organization which produced such works as Night Must Fall, Gramercy Ghost, The Patsy, and On Borrowed Time. She also directed the musical Godspell.
Kathleen also wrote the American Association of University Women (AAUW) newsletter for 3 years-"an organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research." She wrote the newsletter for the Friends of Rockwood and was a guide at Rockwood Museum for 10 years.
Kathleen and Norbert were former Eucharistic Ministers at their parish, St. Helena's, where they visited the sick in their homes and at Riverside Hospital.
Kathleen served as a leader with the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts of America for 6 years. Many years saw her volunteering at the Wilmington Flower Market as she loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also organized the snow removal service for her development and managed it for a period of 15 years.
Kathleen is survived by her seven children, Judith E. McCann, Mark C. Gladnick, N. Lawrence Gladnick, Gregory E. Gladnick, Dann J. Gladnick, Paul G. Gladnick, Mary Jane Reeve; and her 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and her beloved Scottie, Caity. She was preceded in death by her husband N. Lawrence Gladnick, her parents and only sister, Mary Ruth Frame Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Bellefonte, Wilmington, DE 19809. Burial will be private. There will be a visitation with the family on Tuesday morning at the church from 11:00 A.M. until Noon.
