Helen T. Gregory, 95, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at home on March 17, 2014, surrounded by members of her loving family. Born in Wilmington on November 25, 1918, she moved with her family to Greece as a young child and was raised in Sparta, until she returned to the U. S. as a young adult. Helen was predeceased by her parents, James and Pota Laskaris; her sister Angeline; and brothers, Peter, Harry, Thomas, Apominondes, John, Pericles and Radamanthis. Her husband, Thomas N. Gregory, passed away in 1958.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen was also very proud of her Greek heritage. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington since 1959. While raising her young family in Wilmington, Helen worked as a beautician. She was a wonderful cook and loved to plant flowers, sew, crochet, knit, and do embroidery.
Helen will be remembered with great love by her five children: James Gregory of Wilmington, with whom she lived; Patricia Shoemaker and her husband Robert and Antoinette Eaton and her husband Duane, all of Wilmington; Nicholas Gregory and Elaine Theodore and her husband John of West Palm Beach, Florida. Helen found great joy and took special pride in each of her seven grandchildren: Thomas Theodore and his wife Katie, Stephanie Theodore and her fiancée Shawn, George Theodore, Christina Hoddinott and her husband Jon, Melissa Shoemaker, Mandy Eaton, and Katie Eaton, and Scarlet Hoddinott, her great-granddaughter.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Kathleen Willey of Quality Family Physicians and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially her nurse Jannette, for the loving care they gave our mother and the support they provided our family.
