J. Simpson Dean, Jr., of Wilmington, DE, and Palm Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014 at age 86.
Jimmy was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Paulina du Pont and J. Simpson Dean, Sr., and raised in Wilmington. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leatrice Warren Dean. He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Dean, his sisters, Lisa D. Moseley of Wilmington and Paulina duP Dean of Tortola, B.V.I., his children, Leatrice D. Elliman of Montchanin, DE, Calisle S. Dean of Seattle, WA, Warren H. Dean of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and his great dog, Daisy.
Jimmy served for many years on the Boards of The Brandywine River Museum, Welfare Foundation, Methodist Country House, Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware, The Society of the Four Arts and many, many more.
He was a true gentleman who brought joy to the lives of his many friends, but his focus in life was on animals and their safety and welfare. Jimmy rescued many animals and supported the Delaware SPCA, Faithful Friends, and Partners For Life.
The family would like to thank all of his wonderful caregivers who supported and loved him.
