James E. Chapman

James E. Chapman, 69 of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 in Veterans Hospital, Elsmere, DE.

Born in Camp Poke, LA, he was the son of the late Warren H. and Rose Z. (Duff) Chapman. Jim proudly served his country from 1964 to 1970 serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his return home he worked for many years for Phoenix Steel in Claymont. He later opened the Newport Auto Shop which he moved to FL in 1991 and returned to DE in 1992. Jim was a long time member of the Loyal Order of Moose, #1578 in New Castle, DE, which he joined in 1980. He served as Past Governor in 1999, became a Fellow in 2000 and was a member of the 25 Club. He also served as Administrator for the New Castle and later the Middletown Moose Lodge # 1295. He enjoyed collecting Hess trucks, model cars, working on his vehicles and spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 20 years, Catherine Williford Chapman; grandson, Theodore Chapman, III; sons, James Benton and Theodore Chapman, II; brothers, David (Bev) Chapman, Donald Chapman, Ivan Larry (Bev) Chapman, Clinton (Betty) Chapman, Howard (Shannon), Steve (Sue) Chapman, John Chapman; sisters, Rose (Archie) Sturgill, Darlene Chapman, Cynthia Birch; sister in law, Janice Chapman and many other grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Elmer Lee, Warren and William.

Funeral Services will be celebrated on Thursday, May 29th at 12:30 pm at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Hwy., Newark, DE where family and friends may visit from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jim to New Castle Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1578, 621 S. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720.
