Jean M. Dougherty-Monteith
Jean M. Dougherty-Monteith, age 78 of Millsboro, DE formerly of Holmes, PA passed away after a 20 year battle with breast cancer
on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at her home.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 9, 1934 daughter of the late Anthony and Theresa (LaGratto) Iorio. Jean was employed with the Pennsylvania Office of Vital Statistics and owned and operated Delaware County Transportation from 1991 to 1996.
She was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro, DE, a member of the Columbiettes, the Ladybugs Red Hats, a member of the Southern Lights Delaware Breast Cancer Society and an avid Eagles football fan.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, William W. Dougherty, a grandson, Colin Fitzpatrick and 2 sisters, Evelyn Davidson and Catherine Hamilton. She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, James W. Monteith, III; 2 daughters, Linda L. (Francis) McMenamin of Millsboro, DE and Gale (Patrick) Fitzpatrick of West Chester, PA; 4 stepchildren, Lynne Monteith of NJ, James W. Monteith, IV of VA, Tammie (Doug) Linker of Glenolden, PA and Charles (Patricia) Monteith of Essington, PA; a sister, Theresa (Steve) Judas of VA; 5 grandchildren, Christina Centrella, Samantha Arland, Francis McMenamin, Cara and Gillian Fitzpatrick; 3 great grandchildren, Michael and Ellie Centrella and Cooper Arland and 9 step grandchildren, Dennis, Shawn and Michael Koons, Danielle and Brett Linker and Barbara, Charles, Frances and James Monteith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends and family may call after 9 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jean's name to the Bishop James C. Burke Council of the Columbiettes, 11285 PMB16, Unit 1, 24832 John J. Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966.
