Jessie Mae Brown
Jessie Mae Brown, born in Mars Hill, NC to the late Otho C. and Anne Morgan Brown, step father Horace F. Rector, passed away on August 16, 2013, she was 96.
As a small child, Jessie move to Andrews, NC with her mother and step father. She attended Andrews Public Schools and graduated from Andrews High School in 1935. Jessie was also a member of Andrews First Baptist Church.
In 1942 she moved to Wilmington, DE. Jessie had worked for Whelan Drug Co., Warner Drug Stores and Brittham Pharmacy. She eventually would retire in 1992 at the age of 75 from Mom's Smoke Shop/Main Street Exchange.
Jessie joined West Presbyterian Church in March of 1961. She was a member of Dorothy Missimer Sunday School Class in the 80's and 90's. She enjoyed serving coffee hour and greeting in the church. Jessie was also an avid Phillies fan.
Jessie was predeceased by all her parents; 2 sisters, Mable Jo Duke and Hazel Ensor; 1 brother, Walter Brown and nephew; Walter Brown, Jr. and great nephew, Andrew C. Needle.
Jessie is survived by her nephew, Michael Ensor and wife Nancy of Bear, DE and her niece, Jean Needle and husband Eric of Silver Spring, MD, who cared for her. Also survived by niece, Nancy Richardson of Norfolk, VA; 2 nephews, Jack Brown and wife Sara of Knoxville, TN, Johnny Brown and wife Trish of Andrews, NC.; her niece, Vicki Brown Rogers of Andrews, NC and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday August 22, from 12-1pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, 19808. A service will begin at 1pm. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Wilmington Chapter, 100 W. 10th St. Wilmington, DE 19801.
