Jessie M. Calloway, 86, of Delmar, died Friday, August 23, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following a brief illness.

She was born June 6, 1927 in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late William Joseph Jackson and Josephine Edith Jackson.

Jessie graduated from the Wilkes Barre General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked as an RN at Peninsula General Hospital for a brief time and at Milford Memorial Hospital for 11years. She also worked as the school nurse at Delmar Elementary School for 1 year before working as a public health nurse for Wicomico County Health Department for 21 years. She was a very active member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar where she taught Sunday school years ago, a longtime member of the Deborah Circle and a member of the Disciple Class for the past 2 years. Jessie loved people and served her community in many ways through her many memberships and organizations. She was Past Worthy Matron of Adah Chapter 5 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Delmar, Past President of the New Century Club of Laurel, Past President for the local chapter and Past Vice President of the state chapter of the American Federation of Women's Club. Other memberships include the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 8276 in Delmar, the Red Hatters, the Martha Rebekah Lodge in Laurel and the Tri-County Chorus. She was also a part of a social group of ladies that all worked together through the years at the Wicomico County Health Department. They would meet for lunch monthly to catch up and enjoy each other's company.

She loved Christmas and made Christmas stockings for everyone in her family that were true works of art and will be cherished by the family for many years. She also used her knitting skills to knit blankets for the NICU at PRMC and enjoyed knitting with the Delmar Library group as well.

She loved staying active and being around people, especially her children and grandchildren, who blessed her on a regular basis through their visits and phone calls.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara J. Pugliese (Angelo) of Newnan, GA and Jo Larmore (David) of Laurel; a son, Charles "Chuck" I. Calloway, Jr. (Debbie) of Bethel; 9 grandchildren, Amy Smith (Jackson), Duane Calloway (Carrie), Leigh Clarke (Ricky), Matt Calloway (Amy), Toby Larmore (Amber), Erin Calloway, Katy Reinert (Rob), Jesse Pugliese and Kathryn Pugliese; and 9 great grandchildren, Cole Austin, Caleb, Jenna, Rachel, Sienna, Charlie, Arden, Camryn and Jackson. She is also survived by 2 brothers-in-law, Jack Calloway (Loveyann) of Bowie, MD and Carl Wilkins of Laurel; several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles I. Calloway, Sr; a sister, Jean Conoway; and a brother, William F. Jackson.

An Eastern Star service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 2 pm at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, with a funeral service to follow. Family and friends may call from 12 to 2 pm. The Reverend Phyllis A. Walton will officiate. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940.
