John Bernard Madei
John Bernard Madei, age 69, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Shamokin, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
John was a veteran of the Vietnam era and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force
from 1961-1967 as a radio operator and a Morse code interceptor. He served in Peshwar Pakistan and Anchorage, Alaska. John then went into the Transportation Industry and had 40 years of experience. He worked for Northwest Airlines in Philadelphia from 1965-1972 as a transportation agent. He was then employed at Preston Trucking Company for 23 years as a computer analyst and an onsite coordinator. Some other positions included Carpenter Transportation and Land Star as an operations manager. He went on to become an independent agent for his own business, JBM Transportation. He was most recently employed by Lowes for the past five years where he made many friends.
John was a member of the VFW
, the American Legion, and was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles.
John was a wonderful husband, father, PopPop and brother. John was busy throughout his life, but family always came first to him. During his illness, John was blessed by his loving family with their love, compassion and care as they stood by him through his journey. John was also fortunate to remain at home while his family cared for him.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Valerie; daughter, Michelle Madei Bolinski; and his two loving grandsons, Brandon and Kevin, whom he adored very much; sisters, Rita Stasney, Marlene Rossi and her husband; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Michael Madei; brother, Kenneth Madei; and sister, Bernice Kristoff.
The family would like to extend their thankfulness to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and to Heartland Hospice for providing outstanding care to John during his illness.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 6pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 15th at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 809 South Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805 at 10am.
