John Rowan, 66, a.k.a. the mayor, fought courageously but lost his battle with leukemia. His spirit passed peacefully with his loved ones by his side on Sunday, April 14, 2013.
He will be dearly missed by all who loved his feisty, endearing and personable nature. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who lived life to the fullest.
John's memory will be cherished by his wife and best friend, Heide, son Christian (wife Kathy) and grandson Oliver, along with numerous cousins, his sister-in-law Bernadette Kostelnik, mother-in-law Elfriede Kostelnik, nieces Nina Manetti (husband Anthony), Anthony Jr. and Tisha Nazarok, nephews Nickolas Nazarok, Dennis and William Rowan, grand niece and nephews and extended family and friends.
To celebrate John's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday April 26, 2013 at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE. Friends may call from 10 to 11 am at the church Friday morning. Burial will be private.
The family sends special thanks to Christiana Hospital Doctors Neilan, Emmons, Benninghoff and nurses Jessica, Shannon, Carol Jo and others who tirelessly cared and supported him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.
