Of New Castle died unexpectedly on Friday morning, 17 May 2013.

Jack's generous spirit, quick and biting wit, and skilled hands made him indispensible to his many friends and acquaintances. Private in his thoughts but jovial and gregarious in his society, Jack was the life of many parties and the stable and loyal anchor in many lives. Jack was a talented athlete, playing football, baseball, and basketball for William Penn High School and coaching many individuals and teams over the years.

Jack was deeply devoted to "Doll" (Barbara E. Hiner, nee Freebery), his high-school sweetheart and wife of fifty-five years. Jack is survived by his wife, his sisters, Jeanne and Marlene, his children, John (Jr.), Michele, Harry ("Rob"), James ("Jay"), and Kimberly, his daughters in law, Melanie, Almeda, Lynda, his grandchildren, Robert O., Robert Lee, John (III), Erica, John ("Chaz"), James, Kyle, Leo, and Juliette, his great-grandchildren Mariah and Claire, two aunts, an uncle, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

All are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday evening 22 May 2013 at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 34 West 6th St., New Castle. The committal service will be at the Delaware Veteran's Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, at 1 PM on Thursday 23 May 2013.
