John W. McCauley III

John W. McCauley III of Wilmington DE, formerly of Rochester NY, Royal Oak MI, Suffield, CT and Glenview IL, passed away of natural causes at the age of 88 on November 7th, 2012 at the Kendal at Longwood Retirement Community. He was with his entire immediate family when he passed.

John was born in 1924 in Rochester NY. He graduated from Dartmouth College after being a bombardier in a B17 in WWII, and then worked until retirement for DuPont. He married Barbara in 1958, and was a loving, devoted and supportive father and husband for the rest of his life.

John was an avid golfer, and could always be found golfing with his friends and wife at the Wilmington Country Club. He also enjoyed working on the house, trying to improve processes, often with many comments from Barbara. After retirement, he was a regular driver for Red Cross. John and Barbara often traveled around the country, and world, always with or to see friends and family.

John was a loving husband and father, and lifelong friend to everyone. His good and humorous nature drew people to him. He taught strong family values that will endure, and the memory of his hearty and frequent laugh will always keep everyone smiling.

John is survived by his sons John IV and Mitch, and daughter Julie as well as their spouses and his 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2010.

Services will be held Friday, November 16th at 4:00 at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOMES, 3924 Concord Pike in Wilmington, followed by a reception at the Wilmington Country Club. Burial will be private.
