Joseph A. Baccino

Joseph A. Baccino, age 60 of Wilmington, DE died Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Joe was a life-long horseman as owner/trainer/driver with the United States Trotting Association. His horses competed at sulky racetracks including Brandywine Raceway, Liberty Bell Park and more recently at Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway. Joe was especially talented at using his stopwatch to "clock" the pace of a race to ensure his horses would have a strong finish. Joe worked at Longwood Gardens for nearly 10 years, and held various positions in the electronic testing industry. Joe, like his father, enjoyed surf fishing at the Delaware Coast and had great love and respect for all animals.

He is survived by his brother, Danny of Exton, PA; Danny's wife, Peggy Toomey Baccino; and sister, Joan Ellen of Loiusville, CO. Joe is also survived by his two nephews, Dana Baccino of San Francisco, CA and Matthew Russell of Los Angeles, CA.

Relatives and friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 4th at 10:30 am at Saint Joseph's on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington DE. Interment will follow the Mass in the lower Church cemetery.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 455 Stanton Christiana Rd, Newark, DE 19713. Telephone - 302-998-2281.
