Joseph Thomas Cannon Sr.

Joseph Thomas "Tom" Cannon, age 93, lifelong resident of New Castle, DE passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.

Tom was the husband of the late Mary Yeamans Cannon, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. They were married on August 2, 1941. In 2007, the U.S. Postal Service recognized them as the longest married couple in the New Castle, DE zip code.

Tom served with the Army Air Force during World War II from 1943 until 1945.

Tom worked as a U.S. Post Office supervisor from 1945 until 1978.

Tom was the son of the late John D. Cannon and Mary Kemether Cannon. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, John D. Cannon, Charles Cannon, Harold Cannon, George B. Cannon, Margaret Jones and Edna Phillips.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Cannon, of Columbus, Ohio, J. Thomas Cannon, Jr., of Blue Bell, PA, Jo Weber, of Columbia, MD, Jane A. Cannon, of Newark, DE and Robert M. Cannon, of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Paul Cannon, of Lansdale, PA, Benjamin Drake, of Columbus, Ohio, Marc Cannon, of San Francisco, CA, Kyle Weber, of Laurel, MD, Nathaniel Drake, of Columbus, OH, Victoria Clark, of Newark, DE, Colin Weber, of Columbia, MD and Christiaan Clark, of Newark, DE, and great grandchild, Owen Cannon, of Lansdale, PA.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 10:30am - 11am at GEBHART FUNERAL HOME, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720, immediately followed by a service at 11 am. Burial will be in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, DE.
