June Atkins

June Atkins passed away peacefully on July 15, 2013, at Arden Courts in Wilmington, surrounded by her loving family. A very proud and kindhearted soul now occupies a special place in heaven.

Born on December 18, 1921, to Henry J. Smith and Goldie Jones Smith, June was raised in a one-room cabin near Kiowa, Colorado, with her two siblings, Minnie (Coonts) and Hank Smith (both deceased). June was among 22 students who graduated from Simla High School in 1939. She retired after 26 years from Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. She was also a successful AVON salesperson for more than 20 years.

A devout Christian, June lived her life according to the teachings of the Bible. Always concerned for others, she served for many years as a member of the Apple Valley East Neighborhood Watch program. June was also an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Survivors include her son David Atkins and his wife Kathy of Hopewell, NJ, son Mark Atkins and his wife Dara of Wilmington, five grandchildren; Kelly Mitchell of FL, Rachel and David Atkins of NJ, Misty Dec, Lori Blevins and husband, Rich, all of DE. She had seven great-grandchildren.

June will finally return to her beloved Colorado. Graveside services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Deer Trail, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the , 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
