Katherine Janicki

Formerly of Silver Spring, MD, completed her journey in this world and passed into the loving arms of our Lord on February 14, 2013. She died peacefully in her home at Sunrise Assisted Living of Boulder, Colorado where she had lived since 2008. She was 82.

Kate was born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 29, 1930 to Catherine V. St. Onge and William D. Wagner. She graduated from P.S. Dupont High School, and worked for the Bell Telephone Co. in Wilmington.

On January 30, 1954, she married Bernard W. Janicki, also of Wilmington, and they settled in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC (Rockville and Potomac). Kate was a homemaker, an animal lover and, with great devotion, raised five children along with countless dogs, cats, birds, and fish.

She is survived by her former husband, Bernard of Washington, DC; children, Anne Knutson (Kent) of Boulder, CO, Judy Smith of Huntington, NY, Bernard R. (Allison) of Rockville, MD, and Kathleen Abramson of Damascus, MD, son-in-law Barry Billand of Littlestown, PA and her 14 grandchildren Mark, Caitlin and Jenna (Knutson), Matthew, Patrick, Megan and Sarah Kate (Smith), Michael, Brittany, Kevin and Sam (Billand) and Sydney, Justin and Joseph (Abramson). She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Wagner, Jr. of New Castle, DE and her daughter, Susan Janicki-Billand.

Kate will always be remembered for her easy, hearty laugh, her devotion to family, her spirited personality, and her deep love for all animals. A private interment and memorial service to celebrate Kate's life will be held in Wilmington, DE at a later date.
