AGE: 88 • Wilmington
Katina Manolakis passed away peacefully on April 28th, 2014 at the age of 88 years old. She was born on January 8, 1926 in Asopos, Greece. She was one of five children born to Mr. & Mrs. Anastasios Perdikis. She came to the United States in 1955 when she married her husband Emmanuel (Mike) Manolakis, who preceded her in death. Together they owned and operated "The Candy Store", a successful, popular candy and ice cream dinette business in Milford, Delaware. For 49 years it was considered a "teen center" where everyone started their evenings or ended them in the back booths next to the nickelodeon and pin ball machines.
In addition to the business, Katina was an important link for their families. For many years, Katina hosted large family gatherings at their beautiful home in Milford and enjoyed summer time visits by her siblings, nieces and others. She was a deeply spiritual woman who was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington.
In her pastime, Katina was fond of knitting, baking many Greek foods and later in life actively began making chocolate confectionary from her home especially during Easter time. Katina is survived by her two brothers and one sister who reside in Canada and Greece and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Viewing and funeral services will take place on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am respectively at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 North Broom Street, Wilmington. If you would like to make a donation in Katina's memory, contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Church, or your designated charity.
