Larry K. Martin

Age 74, a former Dover Bureau Chief of the Wilmington News-Journal, Chief of Staff to the late Senator J. Caleb Boggs (R-DE) and a senior executive with several major trade associations, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his home in Weems, Va.

Mr. Martin joined the News-Journal in 1965, covering such major national events as the riot-torn 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and the Republican National Convention in Miami As chief of the Dover Bureau, he was responsible for all news coverage of the state government and legislature.

He joined Boggs's staff in 1969, and managed Boggs's 1972 campaign, which was won by Vice-President Joe Biden. Martin later served as Vice President of Man Made Fiber Producers Association and President of American Apparel Manufacturing Association.

Before joining the News-Journal, Martin was a Peace Corps volunteer, serving in Liberia from 1962-to 1965 and before that as a reporter for United Press International in Columbus, Ohio.

A native of Urbana, Ohio, he graduated from Kent University in 1960. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Grier Martin, formerly of Milford and two nephews, Andrew Martin (Layla) of Milford, Ohio and Sean Martin, (Sherry) of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, May 28 at Historic Christ Church in Weems. A graveside service in Milford will be announced at a later date.
