Lew Eugene Boulden, Sr.
AGE: 86 • Middleburg, FL
Lew Eugene Boulden Sr's 86-year-old heart ebbed into silence in Middelburg, Florida, on Thursday, June 12th, 2014, following a brief illness. He passed away peacefully at the Haven Hospice, in Orange Park, Florida, surrounded by his loving family as they held his still-strong hands at his bedside.
Born in Wilmington, and retired to Florida with his beloved wife of 47 years, JoAnne, in 2000 Lew was the son of the late David H. and Bessie Mae (Rash) Boulden. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army
at the close of World War II
, and again in the U.S. Navy
at the start of the Korean War
. Upon his return to civilian life, he found employment at the local General Motors assembly plant in Wilmington; he worked at the plant for 36 years and retired in 1986.
Lew was respected and appreciated by both family and friends over the course of his long life for possessing characteristics that too often in this world seem in such short supply: warmth, humility, and a striking capacity for simple, genuine kindness. For those who have known and loved him, even those who only knew him briefly or peripherally, he was the embodiment of good - the kind of person by whom the world would be so much better off were it to be filled with others just like him. He was quietly strong. He was quick to forgive. He was a fearless protector of those he loved. He was a dedicated husband, a doting father, and a loyal friend. He was the quintessential "nice guy." Simply put, in his quiet and humble way, he literally made the world a better place.
Lew was a member of the VFW and enjoyed partaking in local flea markets and spending time with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Alice JoAnne (Sellars) Boulden; his children Sandy McElroy, DeAnna Fink, Jim Cook and spouse Cheryl Cook, Lew Boulden and spouse Karen Boulden, Kelly Fox and spouse Butch Fox; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers John, Paul, Butch, and Gene Boulden.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 24th, at 12:30 PM, at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear.
