Lillian Z. Heiks

Lillian passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 30, 2012 in the company of family members in West Grove, PA. She was 93 years old. Born and raised in Smithville, Ohio, Lillian was valedictorian of Smithville High School. She went on to attend Kent State University and Ohio State University. Lillian taught elementary school in a one-room school house in Ohio and later in a preschool in Greenville, Delaware.

She and her husband, Robert, joined Hanover Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware in 1954. Over the years, Lillian served as a deacon and elder, a Sunday school teacher and in various offices in the Women's Association.

Lillian enjoyed volunteer work in church and community and family activities. She donated time and talent to a variety of volunteer organizations at Jenner's Pond where she and her husband Bob moved in 1999. Lillian was a prolific knitter and shared the finished products with charitable organizations, friends and family. She treasured traveling with her husband on business and vacation trips to Europe and the Far East.

Lillian was predeceased by J. Robert Heiks, her husband of 63 years. She is survived by her brother, John Zimmerman of Cleveland, Ohio and her children; Stephen and wife Francine, Sarah and husband Tim Reith, and Jack and wife Cheryl. She had eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Known by all as unfailingly kind and gracious, she will be greatly missed. In accordance with her wishes, she will be honored and remembered at a family service. Gifts in her honor may be given to Hanover Presbyterian Church, 1801 N. Jefferson Street, Wilmington, DE 19802-4709.
