Lin Yu Cheng

Lin Yu Cheng (77) of Wilmington, DE departed this world peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Lin was a loving attentive mother of five and a devoted wife of Herman Cheng for fifty-six years. Together with her husband, Lin operated two businesses, the Oriental Gift Shop at Booth's Corner Farmers Market from 1975 to 2010, and the Kid's Kloset clothing store in Fairfax from 1979 to 2011.

She was born in Tainan, Taiwan, she graduated from Tainan Girls High School in 1955 and worked as a lab technician at the Tainan Sugar Experimental Station. She married Herman C. T. Cheng in 1957 and came to the United States in 1963 while her husband attended the University of California Berkeley. The family relocated to Wilmington, Delaware in 1969.

Lin was exceptionally creative and talented. Partly inspired through her grandmother, she became a visual artist, an expert seamstress, and a gourmet cook. Lin also loved to sing, and was a member of the Wilmington Community Evangelical Church choir.

Lin is survived by her husband Herman; her children Lotus, Lily, Cheri, Paul and David; her brother Scout Lin; and ten grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, 2:30 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wilmington Community Evangelical Church, 1512 Brackenville Road, Hockessin, DE 19707 or Vitas Hospice Care, 100 Commerce Drive, Ste. 302, Newark, DE 19713.
