Louise C. Poppiti(1937 - 2012)

Louise C. Poppiti

Louise C. Poppiti, 75, of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Louise was born on January 30, 1937, the only child of the late Louisa and Christopher Primus, of Kennett Square, PA, where she was raised. She attended Ursuline Academy, Class of 1955, and graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She served as a nurse for St. Francis Hospital and for many years as the librarian at St. Hedwig's Elementary School.

Louise also served the community as the President of the Delaware Children's Theatre, and was instrumental in establishing a permanent home for the Theatre on Delaware Avenue in Wilmington; a board member of the New Castle County Library Board and appointed by New Castle County as President of the Friends of the Elsmere Library; a board member of the Friends of Italian Culture; and a board member of Sister Cities of Wilmington, representing Olevano Sul Tusciano, Italy. Louise spoke both Italian and "Frulan", a dialect from the small town of Cleulis, nestled in the Italian Alps near the Austrian border, from where her parents emigrated.

Louise was a founding Member of the Parish of Resurrection and served in various ministries, including sacristan and bread baker. Louise was also active with the Jesus House Retreat Center and in the Cursillo Movement.

In addition to her husband Ciro, she is survived by her six children—daughters Regina (Joseph) Betley, Louisa Kathryn "Louryn" (David) Hoff and Jane (David) Scott and sons Joseph (Beth), Christopher Primus (Alyson) and Ciro III (Laura), together with twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Louise had a gift of making those around her feel special and important. She beautifully reflected God's love and was a rock of support for her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808. Friends may call at the Parish starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 20.

Burial will be held privately with the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Jesus House Retreat Center, 2501 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 (jesushousecenter.org) or St. Elizabeth High School, Cedar and Rodney Streets, Wilmington, DE 19805 (sehs.org).
