Age 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

Margaret was born and raised in South Philadelphia. She was a graduate of John W. Hallahan High School. Margaret has lived and raised her family in Claymont for the past 52 years.

She was an active member of Holy Rosary R. C. Church for over 50 years. She was on the First Diocesan Pastoral Council and Holy Rosary Parish Council. She was a member of Diocesan Mothers Guild, Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and was a girls track coach at Holy Rosary. Her life was devoted to her family and her faith.

Margaret was the daughter of the late James B. and Johanna (Davey) Flanigan. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James B. Flanigan, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Hopkins. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James P. Hopkins; her children, James P. Hopkins, Jr. (Cheryl), Robert P. Hopkins (Jane), Msgr. John P. Hopkins, Timothy P. Hopkins, Margaret M. Gregg (Chris), Kevin P. Hopkins (Colleen), Kathy A. VanHeest (Robert), Patricia A. Doogan (Sean), and Maribeth; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, John Flanigan, and Msgr. Thomas Flanigan; and sister, Jane Fitzgerald.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary R. C. Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont on Saturday morning, May 25, 2013 at 10 am. Friends may call at the church Friday evening from 5-8 pm. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Newark.
