Mary A. (Philbin) Casper
AGE: 87 • Wilmington
Mary Casper, age 87, passed on to be with our Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. She was born on June 4, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Martin and Winnie Philbin. Mary graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in nursing, a field which she truly loved.
It was in Pittsburgh where Mary met Jim Casper, fell in love, got married and moved with him to Delaware. Mary was a member of the "Welcome Wagon Club" where she learned to play bridge. She volunteered at her local library where she renewed her passion for reading and eventually joined the book club. Mary also dedicated her time to serving others at the Emmanuel Dining Room, where she developed a relationship with Brother Ron and the Ministry of Caring. Mary and Jim traveled extensively with Brother Ron. She was also a devoted parishioner at St. John the Beloved.
Mary truly enjoyed her time spent with her husband. They would often go bowling, to the movies and especially relished their September trips to Wildwood, New Jersey for some fun in the sun with their New York and Delaware friends. Mary would tell you that she lived a good life. She will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 44 plus years, James R. Casper and her sister Therese Philbin. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Martin Philbin and her sister, Catherine Logue.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE. Friends may visit at the church beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow mass at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear DE 19701.
