Paul N. Liedlich
Age 81 of Newark, DE, Paul passed away on January 24, 2013 at Hahnemann University Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side.
Paul was born and raised in Elkton, MD to Margaret and Raymond Liedlich. He was a 1949 graduate of Elkton High School where he enjoyed playing football and continued long lasting friendships with his teammates and classmates. He enjoyed attending EHS reunions.
He enrolled at Salisbury State University where his education was cut short due to the Korean War
. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman. After discharge he spent time as a surveyor in Northern California before returning to the east coast to attend the University of Maryland where he met his wife, Flora. He subsequently joined his family's construction company, Rupert Construction, building a number of schools and detention facilities in Delaware. He also served as a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol.
Paul was best known for his great attitude and fun loving spirit. He loved sports, cards, board games, stamp collecting, travel, his cats and lunch with his EHS classmates. He was a magnet for generations of kids providing love, support and fun.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Flora Liedlich, his daughter Susan Liedlich, his "adopted" grandchildren Katie Sherman and Joel Fredricks, his brother William Liedlich and wife Ann, Chester Liedlich and wife Lois and his sister Pauline Hudson and husband Donald.
There will be no formal funeral or burial services. Instead a gathering celebrating Paul's life will be held by invitation. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be private.
