Pauline Burris Elkins "Polly"
AGE: 75 • Wilmington
Polly Elkins, 75, of Wilmington Delaware, passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 20th. Polly was born to the late Dr. James Earl Burris and Pauline Poirier Burris, on February 26, 1938, in Newton, Massachusetts.
Polly attended the Park School and Dana Hall in Wellesley, MA and the University of Denver in Colorado. She spoke fondly of the memories and friends she made in Massachusetts and Denver and was an avid Red Sox and Broncos fan. Polly was married to Bernard Vincent Elkins for 42 years until his passing in 2002. They met in Denver, Colorado and moved to Wilmington, Delaware where she raised her family. After successfully seeing her children off to college, Polly began her second career as a Paralegal working at The DuPont Company for 20 years where she formed many close friendships.
Aside from a passion for following her favorite sports team, she greatly enjoyed knitting, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved spending summers in Madison, CT with her extended family, and winter trips to Florida with her brother. Polly always said she felt most at peace by the sea with her family.
Polly is survived by her brother Dr. James E. Burris Jr. of Madison CT; daughter Pauline E. Hurst of Bear DE; three sons David V. Elkins and Michael L. Elkins of Wilmington DE and James B. Elkins of Seattle, WA; grandson David J. Elkins of Dobbs Ferry, NY and her 3 granddaughters Isabelle and Margot Elkins and Meghan Hurst.
