Pearl C. Putnam
Pearl C. Putnam, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at the Heartland Hospice House in Hockessin, DE.
Born in Springfield, VT she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Maud C. Corliss. Pearl graduated from Springfield High School in 1936 and received an Associate's Degree in Education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA in 1939. In March 1940 she married the late Stearns Putnam and later that year they moved to Wilmington, DE where Stearns began a 40-year career as a research chemist with the Hercules Powder Company. Pearl was a devoted wife and mother of her three children. During her 55 years of marriage to Stearns they enjoyed many activities including golf, bridge clubs, summer vacations to New England, and travel in the U.S., as well as to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Pearl also enjoyed playing recorder for many years as a member of a local music group.
After her husband's passing in 1995 Pearl continued to be a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; and she never missed a chance to be with her ever-growing family on vacations and holidays. She also continued to travel with her closest friends for many years both in the U.S. and abroad. Her other interests included reading on a wide variety of subjects, watching birds throughout the seasons, and following sports including golf and our Phillies and Eagles. Pearl's ever-present loving and caring spirit will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank Pearl's principal caregivers Andreja, Deserae, Kabeh and Dana from Your Own Home Senior Caregivers for the wonderful and loving care they gave her during the past three months, as well as the highly skilled nurses and staff at the Heartland Hospice House who afforded Pearl a very peaceful end of life.
