Dr. Peter James Warter, Jr.

(1932-2013)

Age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013.

Born in Trenton, NJ in 1932 to Peter and Anne Warter, Peter is survived by his daughter Lyn Goff from Wallingford, PA; his son Jamie Warter from Arlington, MA; and his daughter Nancy Warter-Perez from Altadena, CA. He also had 9 grandchildren who adored their grandfather " Duck". Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jane S. Warter.

Peter graduated from Princeton University in 1954. He went on to receive his PhD from Princeton and teach Electrical Engineering there until 1965. From 1965 to 1975, Peter worked for the Xerox Corporation in Webster, NY. As Vice-President of Research at Xerox he was instrumental in the development of color xerography. In 1975 Peter left Xerox to become the Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Delaware. During his tenure at Delaware, Peter worked to strengthen the department through faculty recruitment and by renovating Evans Hall to be a state-of-the-art research and instructional facility. He also enjoyed teaching, working with his doctoral students, and consulting for Xerox and IBM. After he retired in 1994, he became a professor emeritus.

Peter and Jane's favorite place was their summer home on Keuka Lake where they entertained family, friends and Peter's students from the University of Delaware. Peter was very involved with protecting the lake and Bluff Point, and helped found the Bluff Point Association. Peter and Jane also traveled extensively to visit family, spend time with good friends, and explore the world.

A memorial service will be held in Bluff Point, New York this summer.
