Philip Shickel, 83, of Earleville, MD, died March 7, 2013 in Elkton Care and Rehabilitation Center, Elkton, MD.
Mr. Shickel was born on August 4, 1929 in Syracuse, NY, son of the late James B. and Fanny Hewitt Shickel. He was a U.S. Navy
Lieutenant serving as an aerologist flying with Fleet Air Wing Eleven based in Jacksonville, FL. He received his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Syracuse University and began his career in 1951 as a chemical engineer for DuPont, retiring to Earleville in 1988 after 37 years of service as Marketing Manager.
He was an active member with Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for 9 years, co-chairman of the Strawberry Auction, and involved with the U.M. Men's Group. He was also a member of Cecilton Lions Club and the Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens. He enjoyed photography, golfing, growing roses and boating on the Sassafras River and on the Chesapeake Bay.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Richard, James, Robert and Donald.
Philip is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Jones Shickel; 3 children, Paul W. Shickel of Earleville, MD, Patricia A. Neall (Percy) of West Chester, PA and Peter D. Shickel of Wayne, PA and 4 grandchildren, Benjamin, Patrick, Stephen and Kate.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 15 at 11 am in Zion United Methodist Church, W. Main St. Cecilton, MD, where friends may call from 10 to 11 am.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to Zion U.M. Church, P.O. Box 326, Cecilton, MD. 21913.
