Richard W. York

Richard W. York, age 91, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home on February 11, 2014.

Born in Boston, MA, he graduated from Medford (MA) High School in 1940, Tufts College (now Tufts University) in 1947 with a degree in Computer Science and also earned a degree in Accounting from Bentley College. He joined the Navy in 1942 as Combat Air Crewman.

He worked for E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company as a Systems Analyst, retiring after 38 years of service. He was one of the first IBM programmers.

In retirement, he enjoyed taking courses at the University of Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning. He also enjoyed gardening, ham radio and annual summer vacations at Ocean City (NJ).

He is preceded in death by Parents, Ellen and Joseph Yirovec, and his wife, Anna Louise Lindsay York.

He is survived by 3 sons, Robert York (wife, Marla) of Bellevue, WA, William York (wife, Dianne) of Newark, DE and James York (wife Jody) of Salt Lake City, UT, 2 daughters; Ellen Hopkins (husband, John) of Columbia, MD and Carol Hart of Wilmington, DE and 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday Feb 20, 2014 at 12:00 noon at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Friends may call on Thursday, February 20 from 11am to Noon at the funeral home. . Burial will be private.
