Robert C. Gardner
Robert C. "Bob" Gardner of Greenville, Delaware and Bonita Springs, Florida died on Sunday, August 4, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. Bob was born on July 3, 1934, in Buffalo, NY, to Philip H. and Ida Maye Gardner.
Bob graduated from Conrad High School, Class of 1952, where he was president of the student council for both Conrad and the State of Delaware. He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy in 1954 after serving 2 years during the Korean War
. He graduated in 1958 from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi National fraternity. Upon graduation he began a 38-year career with DuPont, retiring in 1992 as a Marketing Research Manager.
After retirement he and his beloved wife of 54 years, Suzanne, spent many wonderful winters at their home in Florida. Bob was a 50-plus year member of the DuPont Country Club and a 16-year member of the Bonita Bay Club.
In addition to his wife Suzanne, Bob is survived by his sons Philip H. Gardner (wife Chrissy), Scott C. Gardner, and his five grandchildren: Philip, Katelyn, Brian, Meredith and Kyle. He was also survived by his twin brother Philip and his wife Shirley, his long-time friend "Uncle Miltie," and many nieces and nephews. Bob's love for his wife, children, grandchildren, twin brother and sister-in law were the most important priority of his life.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, brother, Douglas J. (Jack) Gardner and Jack's wife Barbara.
The family appreciates the wonderful nursing care provided by Bayada and Heartland Hospice, and all of his doctors and medical staff.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9 at 11 am at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Rd., Newark where friends may visit from 9:30 am to 11 am. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
