Robert M. Rickert
Robert M. Rickert, age 82, of Wilmington, passed away at home on Wednesday April 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in New York City to Kathryn and Francis Rickert. After graduating from Fordham University in 1952, Bob served in the Army
through the ROTC program. Following his discharge from the Army in 1954, Bob earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from New York University
. He worked in management for the DuPont Company for 39 years.
Bob was an avid reader, history buff and New York Giants fan. He volunteered at Hagley Museum for 13 years after his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed summers with his family at his home in Bethany Beach. As a father, Bob coached teams and attended countless sporting events, swim meets, dance competitions and school events. He continued to attend school concerts, plays, ceremonies and sporting events for all ten of his grandchildren. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Bob and Mary traveled to Ireland with all their children, their spouses and grandchildren, creating countless fond memories. His wit and dry humor will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Bob was predeceased by his brother Frank. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Mary; his sister Joan McCarthy and her husband Don; his son, Mike Rickert and his wife Susan, daughters Bette Talley and her husband Mike, Mary Barlow and her husband Dwayne, and Tricia Hudson and her husband Mike; devoted grandchildren Matt Talley and his wife Kirsten, Andy Talley; Danny, Katie and Jack Marshall; Amanda and Tim Rickert, and Phillip, Rachel and Abigail Hudson and many nieces and nephews.
Bob's family would like to thank the responsive staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for the warm and gentle fashion in which they tended to Bob and the family.
Family and friends may call Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery in Greenville.
