Ronald J. Stenger

Ronald Jay Stenger, 76, of Bear, DE, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 at Seasons Hospice. He spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones and faced death with grace and courage. He looked forward to being reunited with his beloved Anne.

Jay was born August 5, 1937 in Hagerstown, MD to Ethan A and Nellie (Fitz) Stenger. He graduated from Conrad High School in 1955. On June 30, 1962 he married the former Anne T Rowan in Wilmington, DE. Jay was employed as an electrician with Paul Nickle and Company and with the DuPont Corporation.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and story teller. He spent many of his happiest times with family and friends at the cabin he built in Potter County, PA. He loved to travel across the U.S. and especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

Jay is survived by his two daughters, Janice and Connie Stenger, both of Elkton, MD; two grandsons, Ben and Mitch Fairer; his brother Ethan A Stenger, Jr; step-brothers Ed and Jim Burcham and step-sister Betty Gunn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethan and Nellie, and his wife Anne. He spent many happy years with his loving companion, Carleen Verchio.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, May 16th at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE, where family and friends may visit from 6-8pm on Thursday evening, and again on Friday morning from 9-10am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
