Russell Howard Brelsford
Russell Howard Brelsford, of Newark, DE went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2013 after a long battle with MS.
Russell was born September 25, 1933 in Levels, W.VA., in 1933 to the late Marion and Beulah Brelsford. Russell graduated from Paw Paw High School as valedictorian of his class in 1952.
He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War
. After his return, he worked on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal in Paw Paw W. Va. Russell was employed by Avon in Paw Paw in June 3, 1957 until August 28, 1961 when the plant moved to Newark, DE. He retired June 24, 1963 after 36 years of service.
A devout Christian, Russell was a long time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he greatly enjoyed teaching the Men's Bible Class. His hobbies included coaching Little League Baseball in Paw Paw, doing crossword puzzles and collecting caps.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruby Cooper, Wilda Avey and his brother, Wayne Brelsford
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Clara; son, Kevin (Sherry); grandchildren, Brett and Skyler; sister, Francis Conner (Richard); sisters in law, Eula Myers and Freda Kerns (Eldridge) and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers in law, Charles Cooper and William Avey.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29 2013 at 11 am at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Rd., Newark where friends may visit from 10-11 am. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
