Ruth P. Ross
Ruth P. (Boots) Ross passed peacefully from this life due to complications from pneumonia on March 19, 2013. She was born in Nettleton, Mississippi on April 24, 1926. Upon graduating as class valedictorian from Nettleton High School, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she attended Business College. While there, she met George W. Ross who was serving in the U.S. Navy
at the end of World War II
. A year later, the couple was married in North Adams, Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Burlington, Vermont where she worked as a legal secretary, until the birth of her first child, while her husband attended engineering college at the University of Vermont. Upon his graduation from the University of Vermont, she accompanied him on a short training tour for his employer, eventually settling in Claymont, Delaware in 1956. From 1956 until 1978, she raised her family, devoting herself to their best welfare. When her children became grown, she accepted employment at Wilmington Otolaryngology Associates where she continued for thirty-five years. While physically able, she attended as a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Those who knew her remember her as a kind-hearted, understanding, and hardworking individual. Perhaps her greatest attributes, however, were her love and loyalty to those who surrounded her.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Timothy M. Ross. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, George W. Ross. She is also survived by three sons: Bradley W. Ross of Midland City, Alabama; Keith W. Ross of Landenberg, Pennsylvania; and Dana G. Ross of Decatur, Georgia. In addition, she is survived by one daughter, Sandra R. Lober of Middletown, Delaware. She has twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Those who knew her will miss her dearly, but will always count themselves more blessed for having known her.
