Stanley W. Caywood, Jr.
Stanley W. Caywood, Jr. of Lakewood Ranch, Florida died on Monday, September 2, 2013. He was 89 years old. Mr. Caywood was born in Akron, Ohio. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University
in 1948, after serving in the U.S. Army
in India and China during WWII
. In 1951 he received his Master's degree from the University of New Hampshire, and in 1953 he received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Cornell University. He was a Sr. Research Chemist with the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware for 32 years. He was a member of The American Chemical Society and Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. In addition to his love of spending time with his family, Stanley had many interests, among them reading, fishing, gardening, music, astronomy, boating and dogs. Upon relocating to Lakewood Ranch in 2006, he and his wife joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota.
Mr. Caywood is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (Peggy) McLean Caywood. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Pamela Caywood, of Fort Mill SC; his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Ted Berg of Lakewood Ranch, and 5 grandchildren, Grace and William Caywood, and Stephen, Katherine and Andrew Berg.
A private memorial gathering in his honor was held on Tuesday, September 3. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Tidewell Care Center at Lakewood Ranch Hospital, located at 8330 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, Florida, 34202.
