Age 94, of Bear, Delaware passed away on May 8, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware.
A native of Philadelphia he worked for Petrol Oil, Flynn's, and started his own business venture, the "Say When." He moved to Delaware in 1963 to work at Feraco Trucking. He later worked at Courtesy Ford, McSpadden's Restaurant and ended his working career at the University of Delaware in the Department of Transportation.
Tom was an avid boater on the Chesapeake Bay and in later years took up motor-homing as his hobby. He loved to tour America and believed that there was no more beautiful place to travel than the USA. He was a true Patriot and was proud to have served his country in World War II
in the Marine Corps. He was an Iwo Jima survivor. Later he re-enlisted during the Korean Conflict
and served as a Drill Instructor at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mae, and his father, Robert; brothers Bob, Bud, and baby John; sister Natalie; and his eldest son, Tom Jr.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Helen; daughter Maureen Markham; sons Rick Beatty (Irene) and Phil Morgan (Linda); grandsons Joe and Dan Beatty; granddaughters Abby and Ali Morgan; and brother Bruce (Ann).
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing and Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 14 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, Delaware. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am with the service at 12:30. Following the service there will be a funeral procession to the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
