AGE: 58 • Wilmington
Thomas Gallagher died peacefully on March 3, 2014 at the age of 58. Tommy had battled several health conditions over the last decade but he never lost his love of life and devotion to his friends and family.
Tom was born to Francis Xavier (F.X.) and Ann Cosler Gallagher of Wilmington, DE. He was the younger sibling to Michael F. Gallagher and Catherine (Katie) Wolfe. He attended The Tatnall School where he made lifelong friends and many wonderful memories. Ensuring years led to a life of adventure and travel, built largely around the horse show business. Tom was widely recognized for his unique style and distinguishable voice and personality among event announcers. He earned the respect of those in the industry and his many friends along the way. Family and friends will tell you there was no one who could make them laugh harder than Tommy. For those who knew him best, his knack for nicknames and quick one-liners was both infectious and endearing. His sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Tommy's greatest pride in life was his son, Thomas, who is a senior at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He revelled in the incredible accomplishments that Thomas made growing up, and thoroughly enjoyed all great milestones in his son's life.
He was predeceased by his parents, F.X. and Ann C. Gallagher. Along with his son, brother and sister, Tom is survived by his sister-in-law, Anne S. Gallagher, and his nephews and nieces: David V. Wolfe (Brittany) of Odenton, MD, Tyler J. Wolfe of Baltimore, MD, Sarah Gallagher of Philadelphia, PA and Megan Gallagher of Philadelphia, PA.
A memorial service for Tommy will be announced in the News Journal at a later date.
