Viola H. Phillips

Viola H. Phillips of Hockessin, DE, formerly of Claymont, DE passed away peacefully on December 10, 2012 at Windsor Place in Hockessin, DE.

Born in Goldsboro, MD, she was the daughter of the late Earl L. Hughes and Louise Cheffins-Hughes. Viola graduated from Claymont High School and the Delaware Beauty School in 1957. She owned and operated Vi's Beauty Salon where she worked for 22 years before retiring in 1979. After her retirement, she and her late husband Walter enjoyed spending winters in Port Charlotte, FL. From 1993 to 1996 she worked at "The Three Little Bakers" as a greeter and waitress. Viola was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Claymont, DE and was a past president of the Junior Women's Club in Claymont, DE.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter E. Phillips; daughter, Carolyn Buchanan and sister, Naomi Burlew.

Viola is survived by her daughter, Barbara P. Russo and her husband, Thomas R. of Hockessin, DE, grandchildren, Barbara Hodges, John Buchanan, Pamela Russo Semicus and Thomas R. Russo, Jr., great grandchildren, Adam, Benjamin and Logan Hodges, Jonathan and Grace Buchanan, Megan, Morgan Russo and Sophie Russo, great great granddaughter, Kambri Hodges and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Friday, December 14th at 1:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 3717 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Inurnment will follow in the church's memorial garden.
