Waltraud "Kitty" Bracken

Waltraud (Kitty) Bracken, age 82 of Wilmington, passed away at home on May 4, 2014, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer.
She was born in East Prussia on May 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Joseph Schlieszus and Martha Mehlaus Schlieszus. Her father was killed in 1942 and the family had to flee to Germany in 1944. Kitty met Bob Bracken in Nuremberg in 1951, where he was serving in the army
and they married in 1953. In 1955, she moved from Nuremberg, Germany to join her husband in Philadelphia. They then moved to Delaware in 1957. Kitty became a US citizen on September 16, 1963.
She loved life and lived a full, beautiful, and blessed one. She enjoyed needlework, knitting, reading, baking, playing bingo and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kitty's love, quiet strength and warm-heartedness will be missed and forever cherished by her family: her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert Bracken; her daughters, Margaret Riley and her husband, Gary, Elisabeth Bracken, and her husband, Bruce Palmer; Grandson, Jerry Riley; Granddaughter, Brittany Orr; great grandson, Caleb Williams; her sister, Hilda Nimmo; many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Lola.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery following the service.
