Harold Steimer Obituary

Mr. Harold A. Steimer, Jr., known fondly as "Hal," age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013.

Harold was born in Cincinnati, OH, on New Year's Day 1928, son of the late Harold A. Steimer, Sr. and Clarysse Reinhardt Steimer. He spent his childhood growing up in Springfield (Delaware County), PA. An Eagle Scout in his youth, Harold was active in leadership and would go on to serve his country honorably in the US Navy at the close of World War II. After attending Drexel College, he made his career in the petrochemical industry, beginning at the Delaware City Tidewater Oil Refinery and retiring from United Engineers as a divisional manager after 42 years of service.

A devoted family man throughout his life, Harold delighted in spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was very supportive of his children and grandchildren--both in their educations and extracurricular activities--and was always the most loyal, enthusiastic fan at all of their sporting events. He often proudly noted that he had "the best family in the world--bar none."

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Adele L. Jaccard Steimer; children, Cheryl Sprague (L. Thomas) of Fair Hill, MD, Harold "Jay" Steimer III (Joanne) of Newark, and Mark A. Steimer (Deborah) of Landenberg, PA; brothers, William Steimer (Norma Jean) of Downingtown, PA, John Steimer (Joyce) of Phoenixville, PA, and Robert Steimer (Suzanne) of Patrick AFB, FL; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 W. Main Street, Newark, where visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Ste. 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

At the memorial service today, I was so touched to hear how deeply Harold was loved by his family and how he lived for all of them as well. The story of how he knew he loved Adele when she was in the second grade is heart warming and so special that it should be handed down in the family as a testament to the meaning of true love. My heart goes out to Adele at this difficult time.
I will always be grateful to Harold for being so kind to my daughter Kayla and to me as well when I had the pleasure of seeing him at family events. I know he will be deeply missed but his legacy and life lessons will live forever.

So sorry to hear of Hal's passing. I had the extreem pleasure to work with him for may years. We started together at the Sun Oil plant in Marcus Hook and continued to work together for many years at Delaware City. Hal was a dear friend and always supported me. We enjoyed may years together as members of the Flying A Square Club. I have many fond memories of our frinedship.

I am now 91 years of age and my mobility is very limited so I regret that I will not be able to attend the memorial service.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this time. Rest assured that our all loving God has a special place for Hal in heaven rewarding him for his carring and compassion for others while hear on earth.
