Fede Barone Obituary

Fede "Fay" Barone

AGE: 90 • Wilmington

Fede "Fay" (Maieron) Barone, 90, of Tallyville, DE died on Feb. 14, precisely 67 years to the day that the love of her life, Menotti A. Barone, proposed to her. She & Menotti shared 48 years of marriage until his passing in 1999. Born on May 9, 1926 in Cleulis, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Felice and Maria (Primus) Maieron.

In her youth, Fay fought with the Italian Resistance during WWII against the Nazis. After the war, Fay immigrated to the US and arrived on Marine Perch at Ellis Island in Dec, 1946 and resided in the Germantown area of Philadelphia where she was a tailor for Lorenzo's Tailoring from 1947 to 1952.

She married Menotti in 1950 and happily enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her 3 children. Every aspect of her Italian heritage was enjoyed with many family gatherings, holidays, and everyday life. Handmade gnocchi, pasta fagoli, lasagna, and dunking DiFonzo rolls in her gravy were a part of every Sunday dinner.

Her talent at tailoring kept her busy. She worked at Sears from 1966 to 1979, Chequers' from 1979 to 1986, and Seymour's from 1986 to 2007 well into her 80's! She was a communicant of both St. Anthony's Church & St. Mary Magdalen Church. She was also a member of several Italian-American organizations, such as the Italo-Americans United.

She is survived by her children, Felicia Barone of Dover, DE; Gregory Barone and his wife Luisa of Westminster, MD; and Menotti Joseph Barone and his wife Donna of Portsmouth, RI.

She has 4 grandchildren, Serena Ryan & her husband Andrew; Victoria Scott & her husband Joey; James Barone & his wife Ashley; and Menotti Anthony Barone (15); and 2 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Theodore Ryan.

Her two surviving brothers are Felix Maieron and his wife Iside of Warminster, PA and Joseph Maieron and his wife Vittoria of Kokomo, IN. She will be missed by numerous nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents & husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Concetta Matiz of Toronto, Ontario; brother Donnino Maieron of Kennett Square, PA; and Tranquilla Quaglia of Kennett Square, PA.

Her viewing will be at Arcaro Funeral Home, 2309 Lancaster Ave, Wilmington, DE on Feb 20, 6-8pm. Her funeral Mass will be at St. Anthony's Church, 901 N. DuPont St. Wilmington, DE on Feb 21, 10am. Entombment will be Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Tallyville Fire Company, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

As a caregiver from Homewatch Caregivers, and also a companion to you,I truly enjoyed the Times I spent with you,and your family when visiting. You had reminded me of my mom-mom Colombo (Italian Grand mom) ,and the first time I came to help you,You invited me to sit and eat with you. "NO ONE LEAVES HERE ( MY HOME ) AND GOES HOME HUNGRY".Those were your exact words ,and you enjoyed eating your Homeade Italian food prepared by Your brother Felix and Idis. You also loved having friends over to visit ,eat and bring Italian food to eat and share Times with. I remember being the first caregiver to stay overnight with you, after coming home from the St.Francis Hospital.Your love of people, and being at home, helped me feel like I was part of the family. You also asked me to sit and watch t.v.when the Pope (Francis) came to the U.S.A. you said you felt like a tru- Christian again, since not going to church. How lucky I was to have known you,and spent time with caring ,and talking, and sharing special moments. After,You passed from this earth,I was able to get to know your family a bit better; making knowing you that much more complete.
