Florence C. Babiarz, age 86, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly at home on Friday, June 14, 2013.

Born in Throop, PA., Florence was the daughter of the late Leon and Stella Miklas.

Florence graduated from St. John's High School in Manayunk, PA and St. Agnes School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. After graduation from nursing school, she accepted a position at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Raymond. They were married in 1952 and this past December, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After marriage, Florence turned her attention to raising their family and within 26 months had 3 children, including a set of twins. Once their children reached school age, Florence returned to nursing. She started working at the Milton and Hattie Kutz Retirement Home in the late 1960's and continued there for about 15 years. She completed her career at the DuPont company in the Medical Product Division.

Florence and Ray were life- long parishioners of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Wilmington, DE until it closed in the early 2000's. They spent many hours there working on Christmas bazaars, bingo nights, choir practices and bull roasts. They were charter members of AMPOL (Americans of Polish Descent Cultural Society) and worked tirelessly in organizing the annual Jesienny Bal. Florence was very proud of her Polish heritage; there never was a Christmas without "Wigilia" or the passing of the "Oplatek."

Florence was known for her extraordinary baking skills. Among her specialties were fresh apple pie, fruit cheese pies, chocolate roll, homemade "babka" bread and a family favorite called "roly polys". In addition, Florence was a bridge player and reader.

Florence is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond, a sister Leona Sohmers of New Hope, PA, a son Raymond and his wife Peggy of Hockessin, DE, two daughters Mary Babiarz of Maplewood, NJ and Carol Cyphers and her husband John of Phoenix, MD. Grandmom Babiarz was immensely proud of her six grandchildren Erin, Tim, Kyle, Jason, Bryan and Samantha and her one great grandson, Nate.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11am at St. Mary of the Assumption church in Hockessin, DE. Visitation with the family will be at the church beginning at 10am. Interment will follow the service at Cathedral Cemetery.
