Stewart C. Brown, of Wilmington Delaware, died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Genesis Voorhees Center in Voorhees, NJ. He was 85. He was born on March 15, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the son of Sgt. Stewart C. Brown & Edna Burnett Brown of Philadelphia. He grew up and attended school in West Philadelphia, and graduated with a B.S. from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and then earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Delaware. He retired as a Captain from the United States Marine Corps following service in the Korean War, for which he received a Purple Heart. Stewart was a research chemist for Hercules, Inc in Wilmington, Delaware for most of his long career. He was an avid sailor, and enjoyed being at the helm of his 34 ft. sailboat, the "Ginny B" on the Chesapeake Bay with his family and friends. Stewart was also a dedicated golfer, and crossword enthusiast.

Stewart is pre-deceased by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Campbell Uhler Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Virginia Brown and her partner, Marjorie Mann, and his 4 Portuguese Water Dog granddogs of Cherry Hill, NJ.
Services and interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Stewart's name to the Chemistry Department- Scholarships at the University of Delaware.
