Alice E. (Hyland) Krapf

AGE: 87 • Wilmington

Alice passed away peacefully on February 6, 2014 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Harry and Mary (Ellsworth) Hyland. Alice is survived by Bob, her loving husband of 66 years. She was a resident of Stonegates in Greenville.

After graduating from Wilmington High School. Alice worked for Craig Advertising and enjoyed a brief modeling career until she married Bob and devoted herself to raising her family.

Alice also enjoyed volunteering for the Flower Market, serving on the Junior Board of the Wilmington General Hospital, and the original planning boards of Luther Towers and the United Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She looked forward to spending summers at Rehoboth Beach with family and friends and, although a reluctant traveler, toured extensively with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and was an accomplished decorator. Always an elegant and thoughtful hostess with impeccable attention to detail, Alice planned and executed countless parties, large and small, and made every holiday and event a truly special occasion. Her annual tree trim party was the start of the Christmas season for many, a time which she made particularly magical for her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Alice is survived by her two sons and their wives, Dan and his wife Diane of Greenville and Rob and his wife Jean of Newark; four grandchildren, Ben (Caitlin), Sally (Carlos Carbajal), Danny and Jimmy; and a great grandson, Otto. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Gallagher, of Goldsboro, MD.

Interment will be private. A luncheon in celebration of Alice's life will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 18 at Stonegates for family and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the .
