Benedict Joseph Sharkey, 80, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.
Born and raised one of 4 children in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Dennis and Rita Sharkey.
Ben served in the United States Air Force in the 37th Bomb Squadron 17th Air Wing, 8th Force in Pusan Korea, during the Korean War. Upon retuning from the war, he had a successful career as a construction manager and oversaw major construction projects on behalf of AT&T, as well as the build out of the GM plant in Prices Corner, Delaware and the construction of the parking garages and additional runways at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife, Beatrice E. Sharkey, in 1994. He leaves his 5 children, Kathleen E. (Sharkey) Selvaggi and her husband Paul; Colleen A. (Sharkey) Buchanan and her husband Brian and their children Johnathan and Kaityln; Thomas P. Sharkey and his wife MaryAnn and their daughter, Ellen; Christine M. (Sharkey) Ward and her husband Christopher A., and their children Elizabeth, Daniel and Zakary and Noreen M. (Sharkey) Miller, her husband Douglas S. and their children, Ronan and Rory.
Ben will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother, 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale, PA on Saturday April 20, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Interment will be private.
