Betty Jean Denver

Betty Jean Herr Denver, "B.J.", died on December 23, 2013 at Shipley Manor Health Center in Wilmington, DE. B.J. was born in Coatesville, PA. She resided in Wilm., DE since the age of 7, when her family moved from Washington, D.C. After graduating Wilmington High School in Jan. 1938, she attended Beacom College. After college, she worked for the DuPont Pigment Dept. until 1948, and later returned to the DuPont Company in 1972 in the Photo Products Dept. until her retirement in 1985. B.J. was active at Grace Episcopal Church, holding offices in the Vestry, Alter Guild, and Women of Grace. She was a member of The Dirt Daubers Garden Club, Red Hat Society, AAUW, DuPont retiree girls, DuPont Photo Alumni Group, and ERO. She was active in planning Wilm. High School class of '38 reunions over the years. B.J. enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, swimming, painting, volunteer work, her bridge and MahJong groups, and genealogy. She was proud of being a direct descendant of Hans Herr, the first settler of Lancaster County, PA. B.J. was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Denver, in 1971. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Lyons and husband David, her son, Steven Denver and wife Judy; 4 grandsons, Jason Lyons and wife Louise, Matthew Lyons and wife Stacey, Nathan Denver, and James Denver; 2 great-granddaughters, Juliet Rose Lyons and Sonya Lyons; brothers, Ivan Herr and wife Patricia, and Donald Herr and wife Mildred. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. B.J.'s family would like to thank the entire staff at Shipley Manor Health Center for their loving and compassionate care of B.J. over the past 11 months. Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803, where family and friends may visit from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of B.J. to Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilm. DE 19803. To send condolences visit:
