C. Raeford Minix

C. Raeford Minix, 82, of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died on December 9, 2012.

Ray was born in Brookneal, VA to Henry and Edith Minix. He worked his way through Lynchburg College, graduating in 1952 with a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics. Ray served with the U.S. Naval Reserve as an enlisted man from 1949 to 1959. He had a distinguished 35 year career with the DuPont Company where he rose through a number of finance and accounting responsibilities and held positions including European Financial Director, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and Director of the Far Eastern Division, International Department; ultimately retiring in 1987 as Vice-President and Treasurer of the company. A genuinely good and fair man, Ray had a keen sense of community involvement, volunteering his financial knowledge and expertise to several organizations including Peninsula United Methodist Homes (retirement communities), Mary Campbell Center Foundation, Community Housing, Inc. (housing for low and moderate income families), and the State Pension Fund where he served as chairman. His volunteering also took him out of the Board room - for many years he enjoyed spreading Christmas cheer as Santa Claus for the residents of Kentmere.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie M. Minix; 2 daughters, Amanda M. Lawrence and Evelyn M. Rowe (Don) and 1 son, Warren H. Minix; 2 sisters, Doris Anne Speierman and Elsie Mae Russ; 4 grandchildren: Katherine P. Lawrence, Sara E. Rowe, Kari L. Rowe, and William A. Rowe; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Katharine.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, December 14 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.), where a viewing will be held from 11:30am to 1:00. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of C. Raeford Minix by sending a donation to the Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
