Dan lived in Wilmington from 1948 to 2002, when he moved to Jenner's Pond, in Jennersville, PA, with his wife, Mary C. Troy, who passed away in 2005, after fifty-seven years of marriage.

Dan graduated from Malvern Preparatory School. He worked on the Mark VI IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) air search radar system, which allowed interrogation and response from an approaching plane.

Dan worked for the DuPont Company in Wilmington for thirty-eight years, in process instrumentation and product research. With colleagues at the Engineering Research Laboratory, he developed and patented a high sensitivity differential colorimeter to measure color gradations. He retired in 1985 as a Research Fellow.

In Wilmington, Dan was an active volunteer for his parish churches, St. Matthew and St. Mary Magdalen, serving as member and president of parish councils. He was a member and president of the Christian Education Board of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered for the Physical Rehabilitation section of St. Francis Hospital.

In Jennersville, Dan served as a lector at Sacred Heart Church and a tutor for the Adult Literacy Program of Chester County. He organized singing sessions for residents of the assisted living facility at Jenner's Pond.

Dan is survived by his four children and seven grandchildren, Rita and James Reilly (Middletown, NJ), Rosemary and John Krill (Wilmington). Thomas Troy and Kimberly Park (Stone Harbor, NJ), and Joseph Troy (St. Petersburg, FL). His grandchildren are Nicholas Krill and his wife Catharine Maloney, James, Joseph, Thomas, and Katherine Reilly, and Harrison and Shelby Troy.
