Age 82 of Yeadon, PA died on November 18, 2012, at Naamans Creek Country Manor, Garnet Valley, PA.

Born to the late Edward and Florence Link Donnelly in Philadelphia, he was raised in Darby, PA and was a resident of Yeadon for over 40 years. He was a Chief Examiner for the Philadelphia School Board of Education retiring in 1990. Mr. Donnelly, known as Easy Ed started his baseball career under the late Herm Solar at Darby High. Donnelly was signed to a professional contract by Whitey Kurowski in 1952. He was sent to Rochester in the Triple A International League. He played in the Little World Series and was then traded to Denver for a guy named Tommy LaSorda. Ralph Houk was the Denver skipper.

Donnelly led the Denver club to the American Association pennant in 1960 with 17 victories. All told, Donnelly racked up 60 wins for the Denver Suns. In 1959, Donnelly outpitched Bob Gibson, 8-1, in Gibson's last game for Omaha. In the Little World Series of 1960, Donnelly, in relief, struck out Roger Maris with the bases loaded. Also in 1960, when he was 17-10, Donnelly beat Don Larson of World Series perfect game fame, 4-2, at Fort Worth, Tx.

Donnelly "had a cup of coffee," as the saying goes, with the Cardinals, the Yankees, the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers. He retired in 1965 after compiling an impressive 189 wins against 89 losses. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Donnelly who died in1999.
